Everyday Stress In Today’s Busy World

In today’s world stress is everywhere. It is not necessary to listen to the news
or to read a newspaper to learn what is going on. Just everyday living is stressful.
In today’s world, there is almost nothing that we do that does not cause stress of
some type.

It seems the simplest things that we do to exist today cause stress. Whether it’s
trying to figure out how to program or use a new device or trying to call a company
about a bill or some service, everything seems so complicated.

When I was a young man during the second world war, not the civil war, things were so
simple. Everyday living was simple. There were the stresses of the war and rationing
and family overseas fighting, but everyday existence was simple.

You lived in a neighborhood with the grocery store on one corner, the drug store on
another corner and all the stores you would ever need on the main street. Occasionally
you would take a trolley car or the elevated into center city to go to a department
store. There were no malls or shopping centers.

I can remember when the first supermarket came into the neighborhood. It was a real
big thing and everyone wanted to go there and find new foods and things to eat. My how
the time has gone by. Everybody knew everyone in the neighborhood. Now I don’t know the
people living two doors away from me. Sad.
